The Flying Dutchmen

In Suvarnabhumi Airport of Bangkok, I met some Dutchs wearing beach costumes, and we made time to sip some coffees at one small coffee shop. I encourage myself to start a chat with them, "Dudes, Bangkok is nowhere close to any beach, and people stared at your costumes since you landed." They started to laugh and ask me, "Are you Thai?". "Nope, I am Jogjanese," I replied, hoping they'd know Jogja, my small hometown. Nope, they didn't. Then I explained a bit about Indonesia, and its diversed cultures and people. They know Jakarta, Bali, Makassar, Lombok... but not my lovely Jogja. Before we said goodbye to each other, they said to me that they'd been expecting that there would be a direct flight Amsterdam-Bali, so that it'll be easy for the Ducths, or Belgians, to visit the paradise island. "I will tell KLM," I yelled at them from afar. Frankly, I was surprised to know that KLM, the Netherland's national air carrier decided to "fulfill" their (and my) wish. There will be direct flights (3 days weekly) Amsterdam-Bali starting Dec 6, 2009, using the long-range aircraft Boeing 777 -300. To be honest, I like KLM because of its old fashioned yet evergreen logo. Welkom, Nederlandse toeristen!
