Winning the International Mathematics Olympics, again
Indonesian high school students won six medals in the 52nd International Mathematics Olympics (IMO) held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on July 12-24. "This year, they achieved the target of two silver medals and four bronze. All of the students won a medal," said team leader Hery Susanto in a press conference yesterday. Silver medals were won by Johan Gunadi and Ivan Wangsa Cipta Lingga, from BPK Penabur Vocation School no. 5, while bronze medals were taken home by Tobi Moektijono, from Ipeka International Christian School Jakarta, Pramudya Ananto, from Taruna Nusantara, Magelang, Central Java, Ahmad Zaky, High School no. 8 Jakarta, and Stefanus, from BPK Penabur Vocation School no. 1 Jakarta. Hery said this year’s win was better than last year. In the 51st IMO in Kazakhstan, the Indonesian team was ranked 30 from 96 countries and won one silver medal, four bronze and one honorable mention. Hery said the victory this year showed the students had improved. German student, Lisa Sauermann, 18, took out the world champion title at the event. In second place was Singaporean Jeck Lim while China’s Lin Chen took third position. China, the US and Singapore won the most medals. taken from TEMPO Interactive
