The accredited departments were ITB's School of Maritime Engineering and School of Electrical Engineering, tempointeraktif.com reported on Monday. ABET acknowledged that the quality of lecturers, curricula and graduates of both departments had met international standards. The head of ITB's School of Maritime Engineering department, Muslim Muin, said it had been preparing to comply with ABET's standards of accreditation since 2007, before making its proposal in 2010. The assessment was carried out over three days in July 2010. The result were announced in August 2011. ABET assessed nine main components, including the quality and background of lecturers, the curricula, the campus' facilities and laboratories as well as the graduates’ ability to be absorbed by companies. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the US, ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for more than 75 years.
