State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina on Wednesday announced it was exporting to Bangladesh three brands of lubricants – Mesran, Prima XP and Pertamina ATF – with a total volume of 16,000 liters. Company spokesperson Mochamad Harun says in a press statement that Bangladesh, with its 162 million people and gross domestic product (GDP) of US$94.5 billion, has a relatively large market potential of around 70,000 metric tons of lubricants per year. The exports show that the company's lubricant technology is compatible with vehicles that use compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel, recommended by the Bangladeshi government to promote environmentally friendly transportation, Harun says. In Bangladesh, Pertamina lubricants will compete with products from other major lubricant companies including Shell, BP, Castrol, Fuchs, Total, Conoco, Caltex and 45 other brands, Harun says. He adds that the company hopes that with its penetration into the Bangladeshi market, the image of Pertamina as a world-class company could improve. In terms of export volume, Bangladesh is Pertamina’s 19th-biggest lubricant export destination. Earlier, the company has marketed its lubricants in countries including Australia, Belgium, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor Leste and the United Arab Emirates. “The addition in number of export destinations implies that more consumers believe in Pertamina’s lubricant products,” Harun says in the statement. taken from The Jakarta Post
