Air Berlin, JetAir and Air Seychelles are all under major influence or ownership by UAE national carrier Etihad Air Berlin is quietly emerging from a budget and charter operation to one of the major quality airlines in Europe. Air Seychelles is recently expanded service to Hong Kong - a destination Etihad could have not serviced on its own due to political reasons between the UAE and China. A move to get into the huge Indonesian air market Garuda Indonesia is the next airline Etihad is cooperating with. An increase in frequency between Jakarta and Perth - plus a link to Abu Dhabi may be the beginning of a plan to get control of Garuda Indonesia Airline that is viewed as the national carrier for Indonesia. It's a continuation of Etihad influence to take ownership of key markets outside their home territory. Etihad Airways and Garuda Indonesia this week will commence new codeshare flights between Jakarta and Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Etihad Airways seems to be on an expansion beyond comparison in the global aviation industry. Quietly it's increasing a different way of competing with fellow UAE Airline Emirates or Doha based Qatar Airways. The daily nonstop flights, to be operated by the Indonesian flag carrier, will begin on June 28. The new services will add an extra 2,184 seats each week to the Jakarta-Perth route. James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ President and Chief Executive Officer, said the expanded codeshare with Garuda Indonesia was an exciting development which would deliver benefits to both airlines and their customers worldwide. “The Jakarta-Perth route adds a new dimension to our partnership with Garuda Indonesia which has developed in a mutually beneficial way since its signing last October – particularly in terms of operational and cost efficiencies. “The codeshare with Garuda to Perth demonstrates the effectiveness of our partnership strategy, enabling Etihad Airways to continue its expansion in Australia and to contribute to tourism and economic growth. “We are confident that seamless two-way connections in Jakarta to Perth and Abu Dhabi – and beyond to Europe, Africa and the Middle East – will hold great appeal to travelers on the route.” Emirsyah Satar, Garuda Indonesia’s President and CEO, said: “The Jakarta-Perth nonstop flights are part of the airline’s expansion program to develop its international network and in line with Garuda Indonesia’s ‘Quantum Leap Program 2011-2015’. The new route is expected to boost inbound travel to Indonesia, and strengthen the airline’s network to Australia – a total of 42 weekly flights serving Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.” “This new codeshare flight with Etihad Airways will give passengers the benefit of seamless travel and easy connectivity to both airlines’ global networks. It is also part of Garuda’s program to be a ‘global player.’” Flight GA724 / EY7126 will depart Jakarta at 1030 and will arrive in Perth at 1550 – a total journey time of 5 hours. The return flight GA725 / EY7125 will depart Perth at 1740 and arrive in Jakarta at 2115 – a total journey time of 4.50 hours. The Jakarta-Perth flights will be operated by a two-class Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 12 seats in Business Class and 144 seats in Economy Class.
