Japan's IT and network technologies company NEC has partnered PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk (Telkom) to develop the Indonesia Global Gateway Cable System (IGG).

The IGG is a 100 Gigabit per second x 80 wavelengths x four fibre pairs optical fibre submarine cable system, according to a press statement by NEC on 8 September 2016. It is expected to be completed in early 2018.

The system will measure approximately 5,300 kilometres. It will connect the cities of Dumai, Batam, Jakarta, Madura, Bali, Makassar, Balikpapan, Tarakan and Manado with Singapore.

The ICC cable system will enhance connectivity among the mentioned major cities of Indonesia. It is also designed to provide direct connectivity between two international submarine cables - one from Europe landing in Dumai, the other from the west coast of United States of America terminating in Manado.
