Indonesia plans to build a hospital in the Gaza strip, Palestine, this month to take care of war victims, treat trauma patients and provide first aid. The planned hospital will have 100 beds and operation rooms. “We hope hose injured in war no longer need to leave the Gaza Strip for treatment,” Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Indonesia chairman Sarbini Abdul Murad said Tuesday, as quoted by Antara. He said the plan to build the hospital had passed a lengthy approval process. At the moment, MER-C along with a team of Jakarta-based engineers, is preparing to sign a contract with local contractors in Gaza, who will manage the construction project. Last year on May 29, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia would build a hospital in Gaza worth Rp 20 billion, in efforts to improve public health facilities in the area. His statement was made during a joint press conference after meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at Merdeka Palace. A MER-C member, Joserizal Jurnalis, said Indonesian people had donated Rp 15 billion to help finance the hospital. Source: The Jakarta Post
