This sounds like a winning concept, taking a luxury holiday while supporting an environment-friendly initiative. A collaboration between Christine Hadiningrat and Sauter Carbon Offset Design has led to the setting up of the Bali Net Zero Hotel Resort & Spa, apparently the first Zero Carbon 5-Star hotel in the world. The luxury hotel in Bali gets its eco-friendly tag because it also doubles up as a solar power generating plant for the local community. The hotel plans to sell this clean, green energy it generates to the local community with the profits used to cover the cost of laying down, maintaining and further expanding the systems infrastructure to cover schools and community centres in the area. Trending! The Bali Net Zero Hotel Resort & Spa generates about 2.5 mws of electricity a day to maintain its 'Zero Carbon' status. And part of that solar energy will power the resort's 50 Ocean View luxury suites, spa & beauty clinic, conference centre, eco bookstore and reference library, a pharmacy, restaurants, theatre and bar. And since it is a renewable and sustainable power generation station, the Bali Net Zero Resort will qualify as a certified carbon offset project - the hotel will offset over 5,000 tons of CO2 per year.
