Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian physics team grabbed two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronzes at the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) 2012 which was held in India from April 30, 2012 to May 7, 2012. "Indonesia has sent eight students to India. Today is closing day and I don`t know which students won the medals," said the Indonesian physics team coach Prof Yohanes Surya here on Monday. APhO was initiated by Indonesia in 2000, and the Indonesian team undergoes intensive, gruelling training to win medals in the competitions. "But the difficulty is to find talented students from the Indonesian regions. This is because The Education and Culture Agency bans students who win the National Physics Olympiad from participating in APhO." Yohanes noted that most of the students who participate in APhO come from large private schools in Jakarta. He hopes to be able to find physics talents from other regions in Indonesia. "Many students from rural areas show talent in physics. They too can achieve success if they receive intensive training, just like the student from Makassar who grabbed a gold medal in APhO," he added.
