Indonesia has ordered 37 amphibious tanks from Russia at an estimated cost of $100 million. The tanks can hit ground and air targets while stationary, on the move and afloat.

Indonesia already has 17 such BMP 3F tanks in service with the Marine Corps, Xinhua reported Monday.

This was stated by Colonel Sarjito, commander of Cavalry 1 mariner regiment of the Indonesian Navy, at the Marine headquarters in Surabaya, East Java.

The 17 tanks were ordered from Russia in 2009.

The BMP 3F amphibian tank is fitted with complete armament, including ground-to-air missiles, and requires three crew members to operate it. The tank carries up to seven military personnel.
