A More Globalized Batik
The show was a success; DVN received big appreciation from mode perpetrators. Not because of the rain, Fergie, or the model, but because his courage from using Batik and Tenun Ikat for man. Ok, you may say it is a joke since man wearing batik and ikat is so common in Indonesia (I believe since Ali Sadikin era at late 70’s), but how Van Noten use it for his newest collections and how Europeans were amazed when looking at a man with Batik or Ikat is a real story. And, last month DVN has launched his spring-summer for female collections 2010. One of his hit collections is named JAVA ROYAL BATIK. Other famous designers on similar trend are Michael Kors who launched his resort collections by using batik prints, built-in sarongs, and bamboo satin; Milan Fashion House Versace also launched their collections which are similar with tie-dye Sasirangan; and Lela Rosa with her outstanding ghostly batik.
