Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Four Indonesian senior high school students won international awards from the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) during the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2011. The four students are Yan Freski and Darmadi from Yogyakarta and Andrey Halim and Reyner Jong from Tangerang, Intel Indonesia said in a press statement issued on Tuesday. Yan Freski and Darmadi received a first place award from CAST and cash prize totaling US$3,000 from the Society for Science & the Public for their research on factors deciding the flow of Opak River to the Indian Ocean, it said. Meanwhile, Andrey Halim and Reyner Jong received a certificate of honorable mention from the Society of Exploration Geologists for their research on the use of bamboo-based composite as building materials for quake-resistant houses. The Society for Science & the Public is a non-profit organization which dedicates itself to encouraging public participation in education and scientific researches. The organization for the first time managed ISEF in 1950. More than 1,500 young researchers and innovators participated in the ISEF 2011. They were chosen from 443 scientific research contests previously held in 65 countries. France, Tunisia, and United Arab Emirates are among countries participating for the first time in the fair. (*)
