Australian songstress Kylie Minogue mesmerized a legion of fans during her first Indonesian concert, held on Monday at the Sentul International Convention Center. “How are you feeling tonight, Jakarta?” Minogue greeted thousands of her screaming fans. Minogue, 42, is considered the most successful Australian singer and has released 11 albums to date, which have sold more than 68 million copies worldwide. Her songs, such as “Spinning Around,” and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” have enjoyed success in many countries, including Indonesia. Minogue started her career as a child actress. She caught the attention of the Australian public when she starred in the television soap opera “Neighbours.” Soon after her television debut, Minogue began pursuing a career as a singer. In 1987 she released her first single, “Locomotion,” which became a smash hit, spending seven weeks at the No. 1 slot on the Australian singles chart and went on to become the highest-selling single of the decade. Her latest studio album, “Aphrodite,” came out last year, and now Minogue is traveling to more than 20 countries to promote her newest release and meet her fans. Several songs from "Aphrodite" have already become international hits, including the album’s first single, “All the Lovers.” Minogue's Jakarta concert did not disappoint. The concert stage was decked out in dazzling decor reminiscent of ancient Greece, and her captivating dance numbers were filled with special effects, including a flying dance act, a hydraulic stage and a giant golden Pegasus. During her performance, the Aussie diva was also backed by a six-member band and 12 dancers. Minogue’s outfits were also spectacular during the show. The singer went through several of the 200 outfits, which were specially designed by Dolce and Gabbana. The show started at around 9:15 p.m, and in around 2 hours, Minogue performed 24 songs, from her classics to recent hits. Fans began flocking to the venue around 6 p.m. But due to heavy traffic, most of them had to spend hours in gridlock before they could finally reach the location. Nevertheless, they were still satisfied with the concert. Carla, a college student who came with several of her friends, said the concert was “a great one.” “I’m very pleased with the concert, the special effects were awesome and Minogue sang a lot of my favorite songs,” she said, adding that she had been a fan of Minogue since middle school. “The dancing acts were also cool,” she added. Another concertgoer, Syaendra Irawan, said the concert was as good as he had expected. He also said that watching Minogue live had been his dream, claiming it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “You will never know if Minogue will ever come back here to Indonesia.” “It was a great experience to finally see the diva’s performance in person,” said another concertgoer, Rinta Harun. She said the show was a wonderful one, especially “the stage effects and dance acts.” “I hope she can come back here again, sometime.” After her show in Jakarta, Minogue is scheduled to visit Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. On Sunday, the organizers said that around 5,000 tickets have been sold, out of 7,000 tickets offered.
