Kompas reported that during the period of January thru August 2011 only there has been $1.6 million worth of Balinese woven handicraft exports. This figure translate to roughly 1.6 millions of various products that include woven bags, paper towels, ingke (food places), artistic lampshades, and many others. It's been long known that Balinese handicrafts are very popular among international fashion fans. To name one, the main picture above is one of Jimmy Choo's collections of Balinese inspired fashion items, the Bali Woven Hobo, priced around $900 a piece. It's available at Net-A-Porter, a designer brands online shopping website. This should help understand why Balinese handicrafts exports are very strong. The Ata woven crafts were initially produced in Gumung village, Tengangan, Karangasam in the form of sacred traditional objects of the "Megeret prisai Pandan" exhibition which was held in the annual Aci Sambah" ceremony. The woven handicrafts are then developed in the villages of Bungaya, Bebandem, including Seraya which has attracted foreign tourists. Image Source: Net-A-Porter Credit: KOMPAS.com
