Rower Eka Octarianus Wins First Indonesian SEA Games' Gold

[The Jakarta Globe]: Rower Eka Octarianus won Indonesia its first XXVI Southeast Asian Games' gold medal in the men's 1,000-meter canoe race on Friday. Eka beat Burmese Whin Htike and Vietnamese Van Long Tran at the event held at Cipule Lake in Karawang, West Java. Indonesian Muchlis snatched a bronze medal in the men's 1,000-meter kayak race today. The gold medal was won by Wichan Jaitieng from Thailand and Lucas Teo from Singapore took home the silver medal. The SEA Games will be officially opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Sriwijaya Stadium, Palembang, South Sumatra later this evening. Indonesia last hosted the Games in 1997. That was also the last time it finished atop the medals table, and its goal is to reclaim first place this year.
